Wow, what a journey, from start to finish, wow!! The hardest thing about this trip was paying, we struggled with the website or our internet, however that was the only struggle we had. Our pick up from our hotel in PP was punctual, water taxi (speed boat) efficient, taking us direct to the boat. Then the ship set sail for a 4 day cruise!! What an adventure! There were 6 of us, plenty of room, plenty of fantastic food, plenty of perfect staff. We were so lucky to share this boat with just friends, one of the best experiences I have had.
My husband and I were thrilled to find we were the only ones on our 3 day 2 night cruise on the Mekong Melody. Our cabin was small but comfortable with a small ensue and queen size bed. The upper deck had an undercover seating area for dining and front and rear deck to recline and watch the sights of the beautiful Mekong drift by. The land tours were lovely, visiting markets, fruit farms, villages, and a coconut candy factory. By far the best feature if this cruise however was the staff. Ang was the most fabulous guide, excellent English and very knowledgeable about the local area. Be was our chef and wow - his food was spectacular and there was so much of it we couldn't nearly finish it all. Long was our waiter and masseuse and he had the biggest smile all day every day earning him the nickname Mr Happy, and Mui was our Captain, navigating the Mekong with skill. I celebrated my 40th birthday on board and they all made me feel so special presenting me with a cake, flowers and a gift. Thank you all, my husband and I will remember this cruise fondly.
Excellent why to experience the Mekong river. Small vessel. Accomodated approx 14 people. Rooms cosy with air conditioning and small ensuites. Centre eating area and sun deck on top. Food was local cuisine. Prepared on board. Can pay with card, cash (local or US currency) Very enjoyable to cruise into the night on the sun deck drinking local beers or wines.
Our family of seven spanning three generations had the boat to ourselves and stayed for one night. Four of us did the walking tour in the village and three did a short cycle trip. We were treated to foot massage after sunset on the third level deck. Very relaxing way to experience the delta.
We had a really fantastic two days. I would highly recommend this trip. The cabin was great, a good size, but I think we were on their smallest boat. The food was amazing, and the staff very attentive and charming. There was so much to photograph. It is such an interesting river. The itinerary was excellent. We got up very early to watch the sunrise over the river, and see the river come to life. As with all these overnight cruises, we got to the Floating Market a bit too late to see it in full swing, but there was so much else to see during our trip, that this did not matter. Their admin was excellent. We were able to book the night before (which was also a Sunday) as another operator let us down and cancelled our booking last minute.
